Curriculum Vitae: The Art of Preparing Perfect CV

The word curriculum vitae can be translated literally as "story of your life".  The Curriculum Vitae is said to be an important document as all the applicant's dreams and hopes for the future lie on it.  It could be produced for securing a job or for a better earning capacity, position, for getting new challenges and many more.  Hence the CV has to be presented in the best manner.  In order to stand out above the crowd of CVs, the applicant should try to make his CV look distinct and at the same time a little bit special.

But the fact is that many do not know how to write a killer CV.  Creating a professional CV is said to be an art by itself which should be learnt by everyone in order to land in a good job.  Sometime a good CV can work even beyond securing a good job.  For instance, once a person gets to the interview level, a well prepared CV highlighting the Educational qualifications, work experience and achievements can help the applicant in getting him a good salary.  Hence it is advised to dedicate more time in preparing the right kind of CV.  The reasons for a CV or Curriculum Vitae not getting noticed are many.  But the major reasons are that they fail to make the best impression during the first sight itself or the length of the CV might either be too long that the hirer does not feel like reading it or too short without any details or might be due to the poor visual presentation.

Each prospective applicant should like to and work towards drafting and creating a successful or winning CV.  Only such kind of CVs would be able to make a positive impact on the hirer in the absence of a personal meeting.  An effective and well balanced kind of CV will only be successful for declaring the applicant's capability to take and handle the position for which he has applied for.  A good CV would have some of the main heads given below:

Opening statement which summarizes the applicant's professional skills and abilities, applicant's name, contact information both current as well as permanent, work experience summary detailing about the designation, responsibilities held, previous employer's details, achievements if any, details about education both basic and specialization, hobbies and interests, references and so on.

Types of CV

Functional CV basically helps in listing down the applicant's achievements and work experience based on the jobs the applicant has handled over a period of time.  Much importance is not given to the chronological way of listing.

Chronological CV is a kind of CV which helps the applicant to list down his achievements and experiences both past and present in a manner that it clearly shows how the applicant has grown in terms of position, job handling and responsibilities held from his initial stages to the current status.

Performance CV is a type which is meant to highlight the applicant's achievements, performance and merits based on the position for which he is applying for.
